Quick search
To search for an image enter your search words (separated by spaces) into the entry field and then click "search".
By default all entered words will have an "and" relationship.
This means that all words you enter must be present in the description for it to fulfill the criteria.
For an "or" search enter the word or between search words: for example, woman or women.
For a "not" search enter, for example, man not elderly.
In image search you may search for one or several keyword(s) or for an image number.
In quick search you can limit your search to one or more of the following options:
Search in:
- Royalty-managed (RM)
- Royalty-free (RF)
- Photograph
- Illustration
- Black & white
- Color
If you also specify a country of utilization, the search result will only display images which may be utilized in that country.
Advanced search
Use "advanced search" to make additional search options available to you.
Search in:
- Formats (vertical, horizontal,...)
- Categories (people, food, animals,?)
- Collections (nonstock, Botanica, Phototake;...)
If you obtain too many results:
you can further refine your search by selecting an image type from the menu.
Through this method you can restrict the search result exclusively to photographs, illustrations, etc.
If you obtain too few results:
you may have entered too many criteria. The result displays only items which match all your data and search words, so the more information you enter, the fewer results will be displayed.
Hints for searching:
- Select general search words
- Check for correct spelling of all search words
- Check whether the image numbers you entered are correct
- Try both singular and plural forms of your search word
- Replace your search word with suitable synonyms. Example:
Young people instead of teenagers.
- Try both ä, ö, ü as well as ae, oe and ue. Example:
Luebeck or Lübeck
- Avoid extremely specific commands
- Avoid using the symbols "+" and "-"
mauritius images provides a digital as well as an analog archive. The image you desire may by stored there.
If you get no results for a German search word, try entering an English term or vice versa.
Please use a space between search words (hit space bar once).
You can further restrict your search by using the check boxes of the individual keywords when you have the detailed view of an image. Remember that you may not get any search results if you are too restrictive.

Problems during download
Sometimes errors or other problems occur during download.
In such cases please do not hesitate to contact our support team .
The download time depends on system traffic and the speed of your connection and is also influenced by how fast or slow your computer works.
Please be patient and allow the file to arrive at your machine before initiating further work.
In the following you will find some solutions for cases where a download is not immediately successful:
- Such interruptions may be caused by your Internet connection, by Internet traffic or by an unstable connection.
Your browser may not be able to handle such large quantities of data. Try downloading again.
- If you see a screen filled with text during download, your browser is not set correctly for receiving compressed data.
Try to then load the file directly to your hard drive, by clicking the command "download" in Mac and simultaneously keeping the "option" key pressed.
If you work with a PC this is done via the "Alt" key. You may also have opened the file in an inappropriate application;
you need an image management or image processing program on your computer.
- For decompressing the received file it usually suffices to double-click the icon. On a PC you can unzip this file with the extension .EXE using WinZip;
in MAC you use the HQXthru Stuff-it Expander. It is automatically unstuffed with a double-click;
thus you get a compressed copy and a decompressed copy of this file. Now you can open, import or de-stuff this file in your desired image processing program.
- An error occurred during decompressing: The file may not have been downloaded in its entirety. Try again.
- MAC users may require the program Stuff-it 4.0. or higher.
PC users may have to navigate to the program WinZip; but on most computers you open our zip files by double-clicking the icon.
- If you don't find the file you downloaded, go to "search" in your computer: If you have not renamed the file,
you only need to enter the image number and the image will be found. Or you perform another download by clicking the command "download"
in Mac and simultaneously keeping the key "option" pressed. If you work with a PC this is done via the "Alt" key.
After the download the icon will be displayed on your desktop.
- If you continue to have problems we will send you the ordered image by email.
Do you need help? Send an email to our support team or call us at +49(0)8823/42 47.
