Let‘s go Southwest… Experience your personal wild west adventure in the usa! (part 3 - arizona, california, nevada)

A travel report on the most beautiful national parks in the southwest of the USA. Images exclusively by mauritius images.

Grand Canyon National Park

The Grand Canyon is one of the seven natural wonders of the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and probably the most famous canyon on our planet. You can choose between the South Rim, which is open all year round, and the North Rim, which is less frequented by tourists. The view from both is spectacular. Tip: just visit them both!

Recommended minimum stay: 2 days. Better: 2-4 days.

Personal highlight: Hike from the North Rim to the South Rim and back.

Historic Route 66

Fancy a little detour? Then from Kingman - the “Route 66 capital” - down the highway, up onto Route 66. And over the winding Sitgreaves Pass past the old gold mining town of Oatman through the Mojave Desert to Amboy - with a photo stop at the very picturesque “Roy's Café".

Joshua Tree National Park

Two deserts meet in Joshua Tree National Park: the Mojave and the Colorado Deserts. What you can see as far as the eye can see are the eponymous Joshua Trees as well as Cholla cacti and gigantic rocks. You feel like you are on another planet. Especially worthwhile: staying overnight, making yourself comfortable on a warm rock with a beer or water, looking at the starry sky through the clear desert air and being amazed.

Recommended minimum stay: 1 day. Better: 2 days.

Personal highlight: The starry sky in combination with the huge rocks.

Los Angeles

City. Big. Urban. There’s nothing more to say.

Death Valley National Park

Arid desert plains, naked ochre mountains, dried-up lakes and salt pans - that's how you could describe Death Valley National Park. But we don't do that. Instead, we point out the impressive contrast between the mountains, which are up to 3,000 metres high, and the lowest place in North America, 86 metres below sea level.

We point out the fantastic view from Dante's Peak or Zabriskie Point and mention in passing that there were several film locations for "Star Wars" here. But you still have to see and experience it for yourself.

Recommended minimum stay: 1 day. Better: 2-3 days.

Personal highlight: Pick up a map of all the "Star Wars" locations in Stovepipe Wells and visit them.

Las Vegas

Like Los Angeles. But less water around it, more desert. And hotter.

THOMAS HAENSGEN AT MAURITIUS IMAGES

Photographer, author, flight courier, advertiser, digital nomad - Thomas Haensgen appears under many 'job titles'. But what he does not want to be is someone who spends his time exclusively in the office or at a desk. Instead, he is drawn out into the wide world most of the year, with the aim of capturing all the diversity of our planet to inspire viewers. Always on the lookout for unique stories, impressive moments and new perspectives - which the self-taught photographer, born in 1971 in Solingen, skilfully captures with both camera and notebook. "I am constantly looking for inspiration and want to convey inspiration. With images that reflect a slightly different perspective on the world and at the same time are an expression of a very personal view."
