Travel Destination Germany

Today, many are discovering Germany as a travel destination as the rules for protection against corona in the classic summer holiday destinations change on a weekly basis and at the time of booking one often does not know what to expect.

Although the corona measures in the various regions differ the situation in Germany is very consistent. All regions can be easily reached by car, camper or bicycle - so the risk of infection during the journey seems relatively low.

Interesting hotspots and scenic variety in all directions

In terms of recreation, culture and adventure, Germany has a lot to offer:

  • Wild coastlines in the north
  • Fascinating alpine mountain worlds in the south
  • Picturesque river and lake landscapes
  • Dense forests, low mountain ranges and national parks
  • UNESCO World Heritage Sites
  • Charming small towns
  • Pulsating metropolises.

The wonderful sandy beaches on the North and Baltic Sea are ideal for families. If you are looking for peaceful and quiet nature you will find it on numerous hiking trails, e.g. in the beautiful landscapes of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Harz and Allgäu as well as in the lush vineyards along the Moselle and Rhine rivers. Those interested in culture and history will get their money's worth on a city trip - e.g. to Frankfurt, Berlin, Dresden or Trier - and on a visit to the countless castles and palaces.

From Amrum to the Zugspitze and from Zingst to the Allgäu, there is plenty to see and experience in the north, east, south and west of Germany as a travel destination.

Travel Destination Germany – the North

Lower Saxony, Bremen, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

In the northeast, the Baltic island of Rügen offers pure relaxation with magnificent villas in the seaside resorts and wonderful white sandy beaches. The Mecklenburg Lake District is the largest continuous lake district in Germany. This region, which is characterised by lakes, canals and forests, can be discovered by boat, on foot, by bicycle or by carriage.

Also, the nature on the Halligen islands of the German North Sea coast invites you to wonderful bike tours and walks along the Wadden Sea or to a cosy cup of tea. For centuries these small islands in the heart of the Wadden Sea have defied wind, weather and sea.

A visit to the Hamburg Speicherstadt is also worthwhile. Along the numerous canals, old brick buildings are lined up, connected by iron bridges. The imposing Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall towers up as an architectural highlight.

In Bremen's oldest district, Schnoor, pretty little half-timbered houses line the winding alleys, reminiscent of pearls on a string.

Travel Destination Germany – the East

Brandenburg, Berlin, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia

The federal states in the east of Germany also offer plenty of variety for a successful holiday. A trip on the historic Brockenbahn railway and a visit to the Teufelsmauer (Devil's Wall) are among the absolute highlights of a holiday in the Harz Mountains. The Saxon Switzerland National Park is absolutely impressive as one of the most characteristic landscapes in Europe. Its bizarre rock formations and mighty table mountains frame the Elbe valley.

The romantic lake landscapes of Brandenburg are ideal for families. A few days in the capital Berlin are also a must - for a concentrated dose of history, politics, art and trends. And when you visit Potsdam, you can immerse yourself in the world of the "Philosopher of Sanssouci" in the beautiful palace.

In Dresden, outstanding cultural assets such as the Zwinger, the Frauenkirche and the Semper Opera are waiting to be discovered. With the Bauhaus in Dessau, the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site Naumburg or the historic old town of Quedlinburg, Saxony-Anhalt also has a lot to offer those interested in culture. The enchanted castle ruins of Hanstein are the perfect place to enjoy a magnificent view of the Thuringian Forest.

Travel Destination Germany – the South

Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and the Saarland

The magnificent castles and palaces in the south of Germany, including the fairytale Neuschwanstein, invite you to marvel. Absolutely worth seeing are the beautiful historic old towns - Dinkelsbühl, for example, is considered one of the most beautiful in Germany. The impressive patrician houses are surrounded by a completely preserved medieval town wall.

A visit to Munich offers a lot of variety. In addition to the Oktoberfest, the architecturally unique Olympic Stadium, the extensive English Garden and the Pinakothek museums with their unique art collections provide the best entertainment in the Bavarian capital.

A must for everyone who likes to hike and enjoy the great outdoors: the breathtaking views along the circular route around the Nonnweiler Reservoir in Saarland. And of course, the beautiful Saarschleife, which never loses any of its fascination at any time of the day or year. You can also find a World Cultural Heritage Site in the Saarland: the Völklinger Hütte, one of the most important industrial monuments in the world. The industrial plant dates from the heyday of heavy industrialisation and looks particularly impressive after dusk.
